Share Price and Market Capitalization at the Close of Specified Days of the Week.
Friday, April 14th, 2023.
All four indices continued in their downward trend for the fourth and last trading day of this week. CBshare's ranking fell back to fourth place, closing the week at KES1,739.97 (or US$12.95 at today's unchanged forex rate of KES134.40 per US$). NSE20 Index, on the other hand, retained yesterday's top ranking, while NASI jumped from fourth to second place. Here is how the indices ranked at the end of the day:
1. NSE 20 Index: -0.27%
2. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -0.30%
3. NSE 25 Index: -0.32%
4. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.68%*.
*** KES1,739.97 is the new price at which a CBshare will sell -- until 5:00 PM Monday, April 17th, 2023. As is the practice at the bourse (and in keeping with Unashig's pegging principle), a buyer will need to add to the stated price the standard stock trading charges that apply at the NSE -- that is, 3.55% of the price of each CBshare bought (up to 9 CBshares in one day's transaction).
Unashig's market capitalization also dropped further, though less sharply (-0.68%) from yesterday's level, to close at KES6,017,888.50 (or US$44,775.96, at today's forex rate).
On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare fell further, to -8.27%, at today's close. Unashig's market capitalization continued to shrink as well (closing at -6.21%), YTD. The market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (the Bourse) as a whole dipped further to -12.12%, YTD, and closed at KES1.74 Trillion as already indicated.
Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization has now declined by 19.38% (yesterday it was at -18.55%). NSE's new market valuation of KES1.74 Trillion also represents a new low (at -32.30%) during the indicated period.

As always, NSE's daily market capitalization is a key gravitational force in the changing fortunes (the ups and downs) of the metrics we continue to pay attention to in these daily reports and observations. But, in turn, they are a reflection (markers) -- often in a lagged sort of way -- of its own uneven trajectory. It's complicated. Today, it shrank to KES1.75 Trillion.
CBshare's ranking eased upward a notch -- from fourth yesterday to third today -- though it remained in negative territory (-1.02%). In the meantime, NASI dropped from first to fourth. The price of a CBshare fell to KES1,751.81 (or US$13.03, at today's forex rate of KES134.40 per US$) -- which continues to be of concern to many in the country.
Here below is how, in summary, the indices ranked today:
1. NSE 20 Index: -0.41%
2. NSE 25 Index: -0.87%
3. CBshare price (25 counters): -1.02%*
4. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -1.15%.
Unashig's market capitalization declined as well (-1.02% from yesterday's level), to close at KES6,058,829.00 (or US$45,080.57, at today's forex rate).
On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare fell further (-7.65%) at today's close. Unashig's market capitalization continued to shrink as well (-5.57%).
The market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (the Bourse) as a whole also dipped further (-11.62%), YTD, closing at KES1.75 Trillion as already indicated.
Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization has now declined by 19.38% decline (down from -18.55% yesterday). NSE's new valuation has also worsened (-31.91%), compared to yesterday's close.

The performance table flipped almost entirely at today's close, with CBshare dropping from first yesterday to fourth today, and NASI jumping from third to first. Likewise, the NSE 20 Index moved from fourth to second. Today's negative results suggest that NSE's overall market valuation, on its own, had little to do with all this, since it remained unchanged today, at KES1.77 Trillion. Instead, one has to dig into the impact of the continuing weakening of the forex rate on today's trading pattern(s) across the various counters.
The price of a CBshare fell to KES1,769.88 (or US$13.21, at today's forex rate of KES134.00 per US$). Here, in summary, is how the indices ranked today:
1. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -0.36%
2. NSE 20 Index: -0.46%
3. NSE 25 Index: -0.48%
4. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.93%*.
Unashig's market capitalization declined as well (-0.93%), to close at KES6,121,341.50 (or US$45,681.65, at today's forex rate).
On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare fell further (-6.69%) at today's close. Unashig's market capitalization shrank further as well (-4.60%).
In contrast, the market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (the Bourse) as a whole remained unchanged, YTD, as already indicated above.
Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization now displays an 18.55% decline (down from -17.79% yesterday). NSE's new valuation remained unchanged at -31.13%, compared to yesterday's close.
Tuesday, April 11th, 2023.
The trend among the indices was downward across-the-board, at today's close -- the very opposite of last Thursday's positive numbers. Today's results were in tandem with overall performance at the NSE (the bourse), whose valuation dipped to KES1.77 Trillion. In this churn, however, CBshare 'outperformed' the other three by recording proportionately the least loss for the day (-0.35%), as we see below. It closed at KES1,786.42 per share (or US$13.37, at today's forex rate of KES133.63 per US$). What's more, it earned the top performance-ranking for the second trading day running. NASI, on the other hand, dropped yet another notch to close third, instead of second:
1. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.35%*
2. NSE 25 Index: -0.39%
3. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): - 0.57%
3. NSE 20 Index: -0.81%.
Unashig's market capitalization declined as well (-0.35%), to close at KES6,178,515.00 (or US$46,235.99, at today's forex rate).
On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare fell further (-5.82%) at today's close. Unashig's market capitalization also shrank (-3.71%).
The market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (the Bourse) as a whole slipped further, YTD. It closed at -10.61% (compared to -10.10% last Thursday) -- with a valuation of KES1.77 Trillion.
Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization now displays a 17.79% decline (down from -17.50% last Thursday). Likewise, NSE's new valuation gives it a -31.13% score, down from -30.74% last Thursday.

SHAREHOLDERS ARE REMINDED THAT While share trading is not Unashig's core business, it is an important aspect of an enterprise such as ours. Unashig is a limited liability company registered under Kenya's Companies Act. It is wholly owned by its registered shareholders, currently numbering 249. Investing the amounts generated through the periodic sale of issued CBshares in dividend/income-generating ventures is a prudent and indeed surer way of growing the company. Surer, certainly, than spending it on routine office activities.
The average number of CBshares held per shareholder remains very low, however. This is not conducive to rapid capital/asset growth, or the generation of substantial and distributable dividend income. For over 12 months, the value of our CBshare has proven that Unashig's investment decisions continue to be competitive with, and quite frequently superior to, those pegged on the trajectory of any, or often all, of the three active NSE indices.
