Share Price and Market Capitalization at the Close of Specified Days of the Week

Friday, December 30th, 2022.

NSE 20 Index ended this trading week ahead of the other 3 indices, with a 0.63% gain for the day. CBshare closed in the third position (+0.35%), with a price per share of  KES1,896.84 (or US$15.37, at the day's forex rate of KES123.40 per US$). Here's how the four indices ranked, all in positive territory, as we closed this year's trading:

1. NSE 20 Index: +0.63%
2. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): +0.39%
3. CBshare price (25 counters): +0.35%*
4. NSE 25 Index: +0.21%.

KES1,896.84 is the new price (before adding the standard stock-market trading charges that apply) at which a CBshare will now be sold -- until 5:00 PM next Tuesday, January 3rd 2023.

Unashig's market capitalization gained 0.35% in value today, to close the year at KES6,416,270.50 (or US$51,995.71). This is the highest point since November 21st, 2022.

YTD, the price of a CBshare has dipped 17.49%. Unashig's market capitalization has, in turn, lost 14.63% in value. Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has, as a whole, continued to underperform, compared with the respective indices. More specifically, it has declined by 26.72% on a YTD basis -- to close at a capitalization level recently stuck at KES1.98 trillion.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year, then. We remain optimistic that the stock market will do better, with a more robust and coordinated management of the national economy.

Thursday, December 29th, 022.

The advantage this Thursday, a day on which all the metrics pointed south, was with NSE 20 Index. It closed 0.16% down, but topped the list. CBshare closed second, at -0.33%, with a price per share of KES1,890.22 (or US$15.32, at the forex rate of KES123.39 per US$). Here's how the four indices ranked in the end:

1. NSE 20 Index: -0.16%
2. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.33%*
3. NSE 25 Index: -0.38
4. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -0.84%.

Unashig's market capitalization shed 0.16% of its value, to close at KES6,393,861.50 (or US$51,818.21).

YTD, the price of a CBshare has lost 17.78% in value. Unashig's market capitalization also declined, by 14.93%. Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) has, as a whole, continued to underperform, compared with the respective indices. More specifically, it has declined by 26.72% on a YTD basis -- to close at a capitalization level of KES1.98 trillion.

Wednesday, December 28th, 2022.

Trading resumed at the NSE this Wednesday, after Tuesday was made an extra public holiday to compensate for the fact that Christmas fell on a Sunday. Monday compensated for Sunday, which wasn't going to be appreciated by 'anyone' as a 'special' day of rest. The holiday was extended to Tuesday to accommodate Boxing Day (which has followed Christmas Day for decades now). One suspects that anyone who wishes to do away with Boxing Day will continue to be on the losing side -- particularly against the many who travel upcountry at year's end.

The trading day's advantage was with NSE 25 Index, followed by NSE 20 Inde, which closed with a 0.33% and 0.30% gain, respectively. CBshare closed third, with a 0.13% gain. Its price at the close was KES1,896.39 ( or US$15.39, at the forex rate of KES123.25 per US$):

1. NSE 25 Index: +0.33%
2. NSE 20 Index: +0.30
3. CBshare price (25 counters): +0.13%*
4. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -0.03%.

Unashig's market capitalization rose a little higher (+0.16%), to close at KES6,410,971.00 (or US$52,015.99).

YTD, the price of a CBshare has shed 17.51% in value. Unashig's market capitalization has also declined, by 14.99%.  However, both numbers suggest an underlying improvement, particularly over the last 3 months or so. Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), as a whole, has continued to underperform, generally, compared with the respective indices. More specifically, it has declined by 26.35% on a YTD basis -- to close at a capitalization level that has tended to oscillate around KES1.99 trillion.

SHAREHOLDERS ARE REMINDED THAT While share trading is not Unashig's core business, it is an important aspect of an enterprise such as ours. Unashig is a limited liability company registered under Kenya's Companies Act. It is wholly owned by its registered shareholders, currently numbering 249. Investing the amounts generated through the periodic sale of issued CBshares in dividend/income-generating ventures is a prudent and indeed surer way of growing the company. Surer, certainly, than spending it on routine office activities.

The average number of CBshares held per shareholder remains very low, however. This is not conducive to rapid capital/asset growth, or the generation of substantial and distributable dividend income. For over 12 months, the value of our CBshare has proven that Unashig's investment decisions continue to be competitive with, and quite frequently superior to, those pegged on the trajectory of any, or often all, of the three active NSE indices.

Share Price and Market Capitalization at the Close of Specified Days of the Week

Friday, December 16th, 2022.

The usual four indices were split more-or-less evenly between gainers and losers. The price of a CBshare fell (-0.33%), to close at KES1,892.14 (or US$15.37, at the forex rate of KES123.10 per US$). NASI reversed course as well, flipping from fourth in yesterday's ranking (-0.11%) to first today (+0.33%):

1. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): +33%.
2. NSE 25 Index: +0.26%
3. NSE 20 Index: -0.21%
4. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.33%.*

KES1,898.31 is the new price (before adding the standard stock-market trading charges that apply) at which a CBshare will now be traded -- until 5:00 PM, Monday, December 19th.

Unashig's market capitalization dipped as well (-0.27%) to close at KES6,385,218.00 (or US$51,870.70).

YTD, the price of a CBshare has shed 17.70% in value. Unashig's  market capitalization has declined rather less steeply -- by 15.04%. In comparison, the market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) as a whole has continued to dip even more sharply -- by 25.98% on a YTD basis -- to close at KES 2.00 trillion.

Thursday, December 15th, 2022.

Three indices closed higher today, with NSE 20, the only one which fell yesterday, ranking first. It's all very much like the planets chasing the only sun we/they have, and continually changing positions even as they orbit it -- and none ever totally left behind -- even as the sun itself courses through the cosmos, in its own little-known orbit.

The price of a CBshare gained a little more today (+0.36%), to close at KES1,898.31 (or US$15.43, at the forex rate of KES123.00 per US$). NSE 20 Index took the lead, as we see below. CBshare's performance and ranking also improved:

1. NSE 20 Index: +0.73%
2. CBshare price (25 counters): +0.36%*
3. NSE 25 Index: +0.29%
4. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -0.11%.

Unashig's market capitalization made a 0.36% gain to close at KES6,402,251.00 (or US$52,050.82). This, the highest valuation since last month (November 24th), was aided by a small but continuing burst of CBshare purchases. In doing so, the shareholders involved are reducing the average cost of their holdings. Value-addition will follow.

YTD, the price of a CBshare has shed 17.43 in value, which is an improvement compared to recent levels. Unashig's market capitalization has declined noticeably less -- by 14.82%. In comparison, the market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) as a whole has declined even more sharply -- by 26.35% on a YTD basis. It has continued to underperform Unashig.

Wednesday, December 14th, 2022.

Today's feed of trading data certainly reflects yesterday's hushed technical glitches at the NSE in general, and, more particularly, in the operations of at least some brokerages. Noticeably, key stats were reported yesterday and today by those concerned without the usual forthrightness or accuracy.

What we do have shows that three of the usual indices closed in positive territory, with NSE 25 Index leading the pack and NSE 20 Index trailing.

The price of a CBshare gained a marginal 0.02%, to close at  KES1,891.54 (or US$15.39, at the forex rate of KES122.91 per US$). However, CBshare's performance-based ranking remained steady in third place, as we see below:

1. NSE 25 Index: +0.64%
2. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): +0.31%
3. CBshare price (25 counters): +0.02%*
4. NSE 20 Index: -0.12%..

Unashig's market capitalization made a 0.14% gain to close at KES6,377,521.70 (or US$51,887.74). This, the highest valuation since the 24th of last month, was aided by a small burst of CBshare purchases.

YTD, the price of a CBshare has shed 17.72% in value, while Unashig's market capitalization has declined by 15.14%. In comparison, however, the market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) as a whole has declined relatively more sharply; by 25.98%, on a YTD basis. More specifically, NSE has continued to underperform Unashig.

Tuesday, December 13th, 2022.

All four indices trended upward, with NASI leading the pack. The price of a CBshare gained a further 0.42%, to close at KES1,891.13  (or US$15.39, at the forex rate of KES122.90 per US$). Despite today's performance, CBshare's ranking dropped from first last Friday to third at today's close:

1. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): +1.07%
2. NSE 25 Index: +0.99%
3. CBshare price (25 counters): +0.42%*
4. NSE 20 Index: +0.26%.

KES1,891.13 is the new price (before adding the standard stock-market trading charges that apply) at which a CBshare will now be traded -- until 5:00 PM, Wednesday, December 14th.

Unashig's market capitalization made a 0.42% gain as well, to close at KES6,368,582.50 (or US$51,819.22). This is the highest valuation since the 24th of last month.

YTD, the price of a CBshare declined by 17.74% at the close, while Unashig's market capitalization fell by 15.26%. In comparison, the market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) as a whole has declined by 26.35% on a YTD basis. More importantly, it has continued to underperform Unashig.

Monday, December 12th, 2022.

There was no trading this Monday, which was Jamhuri Day (a national holiday).

The Board and Management of Unashig Kenya PLC are pleased to release to Unashig Shareholders, via the link provided below, the CDSC Statement of Unashig's portfolio of NSE-listed stocks as at the end of November 2022. CDSC routinely avails such a statement at the end of the month to each active and direct investor at the NSE.

Unashig's portfolio continued to be spread across the same 25 counters as we have shown in previous months. However, additional monthly investments do vary from counter to counter, depending on the availability of new investible funds -- and on such opportunities as may be deemed attractive in the short-, medium- and/or long term. As readers will note, there was little investment appetite among shareholders during the month; even though we had a number of attractive buying opportunities.

All indices reversed course, closing in positive territory as shown in the ranking below. CBshare price gained 0.35%, at KES1,854.85 (or US$15.12), despite a weaker forex rate of KES122.76 per US$:

1. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): +0.62%

Monday, December 5th, 2022.

All indices fell today. Three of them dipped with a margin of at least -1.00%, while one (NSE20 Index) fell by 0.75%. CBshare closed 1.00% down, at KES1,848.36 (or US$15.07, at the forex rate of KES122.67 per US$).

AMAZON Kindle's Newly Expanded Access Gives eBooks, and Authors, A YouTube Equivalent, Sort Of

Amazon has just launched a free Kindle eBook App, which you can download to your smartphone or laptop. It offers readers a couple of options to download and build personal/mobile libraries of easy-to-carry, and even share, downloaded eBooks.

To see the details and download the App, click or tap on this link.

For avid readers -- for book lovers -- the great thing about the new Kindle App is that it eliminates shipping delays, risks, and costs associated with purchasing paperbacks and hardcover books remotely, particularly from abroad. It gives the reader instant access to numerous Amazon-published books -- more specifically, those with eBook editions -- and exponentially grows the readership base for authors and publishers, wherever they may be located around the globe.

Unfortunately, the  App circumvents local bookshops -- which are slower to stock and re-stock, and naturally factor aggregate shipping costs into specific unit-sale prices.
