Share Price and Market Capitalization at the Close of Specified Days of the Week.

Friday, May 5th, 2023.

All four metrics lost some value today. There was a scrambling of performance ranking as a result. Thus, as we see below, NASI (-1.36%) dropped to fourth, while NSE 20 Index (-0.39%) rose to first. CBshare jumped from fourth yesterday to second today, despite recording a 0.45% drop in price per share to KES1,666.71 (or US$12.21, at the weaker forex rate of KES136.45 per US$):

1. NSE 20 Index: -0.39%
2. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.45%*
3. NSE 25 Index: -0.79%
4. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -1.36%.

*** KES1,666.71 is the new price at which a CBshare will sell -- until 5:00 PM, Monday, May 8th, 2023. As is the practice at the bourse (and in keeping with Unashig's pegging principle), a buyer will need to add to the stated price the standard stock trading charges that apply at the NSE -- that is, 3.55% of the price of each CBshare bought (up to 9 CBshares in one day's transaction).

Unashig's market capitalization also shrank (-0.45%), to close at KES5,764,493 (or US$42,246.19, at today's forex rate).

On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare closed lower (at -12.13%). Unashig's market capitalization also closed lower over the same period (-10.16%).  The market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange dropped to KES1.61 trillion, representing an 18.69% contraction, YTD.

Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization closed this Friday with a greater loss (-23.30%). Today's market capitalization at the NSE as a whole (KES1.61 trillion) also represented a further drop (-37.35%).

Thursday, May 4th 2023.

Thursday was another losing day for three out of four indices. Only NASI listed some gain, as shown below. Consequently, it surged to top of the ranking. The price of a CBshare closed 1.19% lower than it did on Wednesday, at KES1,674.26 (or US$12.27, at the weaker forex rate of KES136.45 per US$). It so happens, then, that yesterday's rate was a "mirage" of sorts, in the 'dollarized' scheme of global transactions.  Let's hope, however, that the jury is still out. What's more, hope doesn't necessarily hurt. Here's how the metrics ranked today:

1. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): +0.16%
2. NSE 25 Index: -0.18%
3. NSE 20 Index: -0.41%
4. CBshare price (25 counters): -1.19%*.

Unashig's market capitalization also shrank (-1.18%), to close at KES5,790,610.00 (or US$42,437.60, at today's forex rate).

On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare closed lower (at -11.73%). Unashig's market capitalization also closed lower over the same period (-9.75%).  The  market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange remained unchanged, at KES1.63 trillion (or -17.68%), YTD.

Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization closed this Thursday with a greater loss (-22.95%). In contrast, market capitalization at the NSE as a whole was static at today's close, at KES1.63 trillion, representing the same percentage loss (-36.58%) as we saw on Wednesday.

Wednesday, May 3rd 2023.

As we see below, all four indices closed this Wednesday in exactly the same performance-ranking as we left them yesterday -- with CBshare leading the pack for the second day in a row. In general, though, it was a losing day for all of them. The price of a CBshare closed 0.86% lower, at KES1,694.32 (or US$12.44, at the surprisingly unchanged/static forex rate of KES136.15 per US$). We will soon see if this is or is not the start, no matter how stuttering in may be, of the strengthening of KES against the US$ in the near-term or the mid-term:

1. CBshare price (25 counters): -0.85%*
2. NSE 20 Index: -1.10%
3. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -2.08%
4. NSE 25 Index: -2.10%.

Unashig's market capitalization also stumbled (-0.86%), to close at KES5,859,990.00 (or US$43,080.69, at today's forex rate). NSE's market capitalization closed the day at KES 1.63 trillion.

On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, the price of a CBshare closed lower (-10.68%). Unashig's market capitalization also closed in the negative over the same period (-8.67%). The market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange also fell (-17.68%) to KES1.63 trillion, YTD.

Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, one notes that Unashig's market capitalization closed this Wednesday with a loss (-22.03%). However, the market capitalization squeeze at the NSE as a whole was noticeably greater (-36.58%) during the period.

Tuesday, May 2nd 2023.

Out of the four indices that we track, only CBshare (which, like NSE 25 Index, covers 25 NSE counters) closed with a gain on this first trading day in May. Consequently, it jumped from third place last Friday to first -- as today's performance ranking, given below, highlights. The price of a CBshare closed at KES1,708.94 (or US$12.55, at a further-weakened forex rate of KES136.15 per US$). This represents a 0.71% appreciation for the day.

1. CBshare price (25 counters): +0.71%*
2. NSE 20 Index: -0.94%
3. NASI (NSE All-Share Index): -1.03%
4. NSE 25 Index: -1.69%.

Unashig's market capitalization also jumped (+0.71%), to close at KES5,910,547.50 (or US$43,412.03, at today's forex rate).

On a YTD (Year-To-Date) basis, however, the price of a CBshare closed at -9.91%, but this was an improvement on Friday's result (-10.54%). Unashig's market capitalization  closed in the negative as well (at -7.88%), YTD, which was an improvement on last Friday's result. The market capitalization of Nairobi Securities Exchange fell (-16.16%) to KES1.66 trillion, YTD. This was a worse result (of -15.15%) than we saw last Friday.

Looking farther back to end-of-year 2021, Unashig's market capitalization closed at -21.36% today (which was an improvement on last Friday, when it closed at -21.92%). On the other hand, NSE's market valuation worsened to -35.41% this Wednesday, compared to -34.63% last Friday.

SHAREHOLDERS ARE REMINDED THAT While share trading is not Unashig's core business, it is an important aspect of an enterprise such as ours. Unashig is a limited liability company registered under Kenya's Companies Act. It is wholly owned by its registered shareholders, currently numbering 249. Investing the amounts generated through the periodic sale of issued CBshares in dividend/income-generating ventures is a prudent and indeed surer way of growing the company. Surer, certainly, than spending it on routine office activities. The average number of CBshares held per shareholder remains very low, however. This is not conducive to rapid capital/asset growth, or the generation of substantial and distributable dividend income. For over 12 months, the value of our CBshare has proven that Unashig's investment decisions continue to be competitive with, and quite frequently superior to, those pegged on the trajectory of any, or often all, of the three active NSE indices.

LIST OF UNASHIG SHAREHOLDERS AS OF APRIL 30TH 2023

The complete list of Unashig shareholders, arranged according to the number of shares held at the end of April 2023, is provided at the link below. Each shareholder's Membership Number is also shown.

The number of Unashig Shareholders remained static at 256. Out of 7,000 authorized shares, the combined total of outstanding (i.e. issued) CA and CBshares also remained unchanged, at 3,458.61 (or 49.41% of authorized shares). We remain optimistic that we will likely hit the 50% threshold this September

The average number of shares held per shareholder was unchanged, at 13.51. As was the case last month, only 15 shareholders own 50 shares (or more) each. Out of those 15, only 6 hold 100 shares or more.

UNASHIG's Portfolio of Shares Quoted on the Nairobi Securities Exchange _ At the Close of April 28th 2023

The Board and Management of Unashig Kenya PLC are pleased to release to Unashig Shareholders via the link provided below the CDSC Statement of Unashig's portfolio of NSE-listed stocks at the end of trading for April 2023.

CDSC routinely avails such statements at "the end of the month" to each active and direct investor at the NSE; but, as we have frequently pointed out, releases the monthly report before the month in question is quite over.

Unashig's portfolio continued to be spread across the same 25 counters as we have shown in previous months. However, additional monthly investments do vary from counter to counter and month to month, depending on the availability of new investible funds -- and on the available opportunities that may be deemed attractive in the short-, medium- and/or long term.

As readers will note, there was some additional investment this April. However, to reiterate a point made previously, the level of shareholder enthusiasm did not match the range of attractive dip-buying opportunities that continued to be available across the board this month.
