NOTE: Share trading is not Unashig's core business, but an important aspect of enterprise necessitated by the fact that it is a limited liability company owned by its shareholders and registered under the Companies Act. It is an established rule that the proceeds of CA and CBshare sales must not be committed to the company's day-to-day operations but, instead, invested in quoted stocks for Unashig's longer-term value-addition.

THE CORE BUSINESS OF UNASHIG KENYA PLC

The "core business" of Unashig Kenya PLC is the provision of insurance agency services through its wholly-owned subsidiary -- Unasi Insurance Agency Ltd. These services cover various fields, including Group Health Insurance, Individual/family Health Insurance, Motor Insurance, Travel Insurance, and Property Insurance.

Our flagship (i.e. Group) Health Insurance service is by definition a Group Membership Scheme underwritten by UAP Old-Mutual. Importantly, Unashig is a public limited company registered in Kenya under the Companies Act. Its Members in this sense are not its employees but rather its shareholders. We are not a SACCO.

To be a Unashig Member, then, one is required to own a minimum of 3 CA and/or CBshares at the prevailing, NSE-pegged rate. This rate changes at the close of each trading day at the Nairobi Securities Exchange, and is reported to current and prospective shareholders on this and other platforms.

Funds generated from share purchases are not utilized in the day-to-day running of the organization. Instead, guided by the Pegging Principle, they are used to purchase shares quoted on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) for long-term capital growth and dividend earnings. Unashig holds shares in 25 quoted securities, but the Pegging principle has enabled the price of a CA and CBshare to stay well ahead of the price of a share of any of the 25 quoted stocks -- which include Safaricom, Equity Holdings, East African Breweries, Jubilee Holdings, KCB, Nation Media, Centum, Standard Chartered and NSE itself.

To those not interested in group insurance, we offer individual and family health insurance cover through UAP. In such cases, there is no requirement to be a Unashig shareholder. More importantly, you pay your premium directly to the insurer. There is currently a waiting period for individual/family cover.

Currently, we are intermediaries for Motor and Travel Insurance provided by ICEA Lion, and for Last Expense Insurance provided by UAP. Those who access these insurance services through Unasi Insurance Agency are under no obligation whatsoever to register as Unashig Members or to become its shareholders.
