Share Price and Market Capitalization on Specified Days of the Week:
Thursday, May 13th, 2021: Share price and Market Capitalization at Close of Trading Day.
The company's share price closed today 0.62% lower compared to Wednesday, settling at KES 2,271.54 (or US$ 21.19, at the forex rate of US$1:KES107.20 -- which signaled a continuing weakening of KES). In contrast, as Dyer & Blair computations show, the NSE 20 index closed 0.11% lower on the same day; while NASI closed even lower, at 0.98%.
Foreign investors were net sellers, accounting for 11.86% of all purchases made, and 39.22% of total sales. Conversely, local investors were proportionately net buyers. Unashig did not buy any quoted shares today, and its outstanding CA and CB shares continued to be 3, 019.11 in total. UPDATE (May 16): According to the latest Cytonn Weekly Report, for the week ended May 15th, foreign investors have been net sellers YTD, but that net selling position amounts to only US$ 7.9 million.
YTD, Unashig's share price closed with a 11.21% gain. The day before (Wednesday), as will be recalled, the growth curve had closed somewhat higher, at 11.91%. UPDATE (May 16): Based on Cytonn's Weekly Report, for the week ended May 15, the YTD gain of +11.21% in Unashig's share price outperformed the YTD gains of each of the three NSE indexes, that is: NSE 25 (+9.0%), NASI (+5.2%) and NSE 20 (-0.5%).
Today's market capitalization fell by a further KES 42,693.00 (or -0.62%). Still, today's closing figure is 0.77 percentage points lower than yesterday's. YTD, market capitalization has appreciated by 23.34%. Going back to December 31st, 2019, we see a 305.24% growth in value to-date (but this is in effect a dip of 2.52 percentage points from yesterday's value trajectory). Still, that gain significantly overshadows the 2019 (12-year) Eurobond Yield of 6.6% reported by Cytonn, as of May 13th 2021. The 2019 (7-year) Eurobond Yield of 5.1%, as of May 13th, is even less impressive.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Given that tomorrow, Friday (May 14th), is a public holiday, today's closing share price of KES 2,271.54 (or US$ 21.19) -- plus the charges detailed in the Unashig Share Pricing Formula -- will prevail as the price at which a Unashig CA or CB share may be bought from the company until the close of trading at 3:00 PM (GMT+3) next Monday, May 17th; and, further, until NSE releases Monday's Equities Price List approximately 60 to 90 minutes thereafter.
Wednesday, May 12th, 2021: Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Trading Day.
Unashig's share price closed today at KES 2,285.69 (or US$ 21.36, at the forex rate of US$1:KES107.03. This represented a 0.52% decline compared to Tuesday's closing price. In contrast, the NSE 20 Index fell by 0.09%, while the Nairobi All Share Index (NASI) fell by a rather larger margin of 0.92%. For Unashig, the drop in its share price, noted since May 11th, at least partially reflects a significant fall at the bourse in the price of I&M shares (in which Unashig has a stake). This fall coincided with the start of I&M shares' ex-(1:1)bonus status. The bonus shares will not be credited to beneficiaries' CDSC accounts until later next week (May 21st).
YTD -- that is, since December 31st, 2020 -- the share price has appreciated by 11.91%. This dip, running from yesterday, was enough to snap the curve's continuous run above 12% during the last 10 days.
In today's trading, in which Unashig was not a participant either way, local investors accounted for 44.54% of total purchases and 37.71% of total sales. Foreign investors took the lion's share -- perhaps assisted by a somewhat strengthened dollar.
Market capitalization fell by 0.52% from yesterday, and settled at KES 6,900,736.00 (or US$ 64,474.79). YTD, it has grown by 24.11%. Its growth trajectory since December 31st, 2019 has lately continued to stay above 300%, and closed today at 307.76%. However, this was somewhat lower that the 309.89% mark seen yesterday.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Until the close of trading at 3:00 PM (GMT+3) tomorrow, Thursday, May 13th -- and the subsequent release by NSE of the day's closing Equity Price List approximately 60 to 90 minutes thereafter -- KES 2,285.69 (or US$ 21.36) plus the brokerage and statutory charges beyond our control, as detailed in the Unashig Share Pricing Formula, will prevail as the price of a CA or CB share sold by Unashig.
Tuesday, May 11th, 2021: Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Trading Day.
Compared to Monday's closing price, the Unashig share price fell by 0.86% to close Tuesday at KES 2,297.61 (or US$ 21.52, at today's forex rate of US$1:KES106.75). In contrast, the NSE 20 index fell by only 0.20%; while NASI fell by 1.46%. The number of outstanding CA and CB shares remained unchanged at 3,019.11, and no quoted shares were added to Unashig's holdings.
Local traders were 'bit' players at the bourse today, accounting for only 37.43% of the value of shares bought and 32.32% of the value sold.
YTD, Unashig's share price has appreciated by 12.49% -- meaning a small dip today in the curve, compared to Monday's closing level of 13.47%. Nevertheless, the curve's continued run above 12% now extends to 10 continuous trading days.
Market capitalization fell by 0.86%, closing at KES 6,936,751.50 (or US$ 64,981.28). Still, the 24.76% growth achieved YTD remains encouraging. It is also notable that though today's capitalization dropped to 309.89%, it continues to stay upwards of 300% when we trace performance back to December 31st, 2019.
Monday, May 10th, 2021: Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Trading Day.
Unashig's share price rose by 0.48% to close the day at KES 2,317.52 (or US$ 21.75, at the forex rate of US$1:KES106.53). The share price thus outperformed both NSE 20 (which rose by 0.22%) and NASI (0.21%). The number of outstanding CA and CB shares stood at 3,019.11. No quoted shares were added to the portfolio.
The US dollar weakened marginally against the shilling yet again today, thus raising the dollar value of Unashig shares. More importantly, but (it would seem) paradoxically, local investors dominated the trading today -- accounting for 81.47% of all purchases and 52.68% of all sales. If one group was adhering to the "sell in May" mantra, another wasn't "buying" it. However, a single day's happenings do not necessarily characterize an entire month.
YTD, the Unashig share price has appreciated by 13.46%. This is the first instance ever in the 13% range. It also extends the curve's "stay" above 12% to nine trading days in succession.
Market capitalization rose by 0.51% over last Friday's closing number, ending the day at KES 6,996,842.00 (or US$ 65,679.55). YTD, market capitalization has risen by 25.84%, which is an encouraging upward trend. It needs to be reinforced with continual investing, however. While this capitalization has appreciated by 313.44% since December 31st, 2019, it will be more important to see how we close year 2021.
