Introduction
On March 8th, 2021, we formally started using this platform to give easier and wider access to a selection of day-to-day changes in the pegged price of Unashig's outstanding (i.e. issued) CA and CB shares, as well as the market capitalization of its portfolio of stocks quoted on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The engagement continues.
We have previously conveyed this and certain related matters almost exclusively on WhatsApp, and shared them with a relatively small circle of interested persons (mostly Dons). Unashig's presence in a more expansive terrain should sooner rather than later prove more interactive -- and even more beneficial to an expanding shareholder-base, currently standing at 222.
The week's daily share-price, as well as the market capitalization of Unashig's holdings, is posted as at the close of each trading day. This intended week-by-week posting will be maintained as long as necessary. The posts are arranged from the most recent date, to as far back as we will be able to go.
Share Price and Market Capitalization on Specified Dates:
Friday, March 12th, 2021: Company's Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Day:
The market price of a Unashig share closed lower at KES 2,202.17 (or US$ 20.08, at the exchange rate of US$1=KES 109.65) than we saw on Thursday.
On a YTD (i.e. Year-To-Date) basis, this Friday's closing price represented a gain of 7.83%, compared to the closing price of KES 2,042.35 recorded on December 31st, 2020.
Friday's market capitalization was marginally lower than Thursday's as well, closing at KES 6,254,399.50 (or US$ 57,039.67). However, on a YTD basis, Friday's capitalization showed a gain of 12.49% over the capitalization level of KES 5,560,154.50 recorded at the end of year 2020. [Paragraph Updated: March 29th, 2021]
Share prices do go up and down, offering opportunity at every dip or rally. But the quest for value addition calls for experience and insight -- and a "sturdy" focus. At Unashig, we are not day traders. And yet buying "the dip" has its attractions. It helps to reduce average prices and to improve yields, both at once; but works best when you have a steady flow of investible cash. When certain investors temporarily "go away", we jumbin!
We did not buy any quoted shares today, however, but fifteen additional Unashig shares were bought -- raising the total of outstanding shares to 2,840.11.
Thursday, March 11th, 2021: Company's Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Day:
At the end of NSE trading this Thursday -- a day marred by some trading-platform "glitches" that we noted -- the market price of a Unashig share stood at KES 2,214.27 (or US$ 20.19, at the exchange rate of US$1=KES 109.65).
Market capitalization closed slightly lower, at KES 6,255,570/- (or US$ 57,050.34). The level of capital gain over two years dipped somewhat to 10.71% (or 5.36% per year).
Wednesday, March 10th, 2021: Company's Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Day:
Unashig's market price per share closed higher on Wednesday at KES 2,216.60 (or US$20.22, at the exchange rate of US$1=KES 109.65).
Market capitalization was higher, as well, than it was on Tuesday. It stood at KES 6,262,138/- (or US$ 57,110.24), compared to Tuesday's KES 6,152,099/- (or US$ 56,132.29). The number of outstanding shares rose slightly to KES 2,825.11 (after we bought some shares on the bourse). A capital gain of 10.81% for the last two years or so was noted, compared to Tuesday's mark of 9.00%.
Tuesday, March 9th, 2021: Company's Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Day:
The pegged market price of a Unashig share was, this Tuesday, KES 2,179.96 (or US$ 19.89, at the prevailing rate of US$1=KES 109.60). This was lower than noted on Monday.
Likewise, market capitalization was lower than it was on Monday, standing at KES 6,152,099/- (or US$ 56,132.29), compared to KES 6,182,880.00 (or US$ 56,413.14). Total outstanding shares remained steady at 2,822.11.
Monday, March 8th, 2021: Company's Share Price and Market Capitalization at Close of Day:
Today's market price of a Unashig CA or CB share was KES 2,190.87 (or US$ 20.00). Market capitalization closed at KES 6,182,880/- (or US 57,286.80) -- which was lower than the previous Friday's level of KES 6,278,633.50 (or US$ 57,286.80). This reflected a lower capital gain of 9.54%, over the last two years, than the 11.24% level registered last Friday. The sum of outstanding CA and CB shares remained the same, at 2822.11.
