Unashig: Healthcare Service at Your Doorstep, in the Time of Covid-19

In this global-scale and unprecedented time of Covid-19, with the mandatory "social distancing" rule imposed by governments and embraced by individuals, families and communities all around the world, Unashig's health insurance underwriter, UAP OldMutual, is offering a new service to all insured individuals, families and groups in Nairobi and presumably other cities and towns in Kenya -- including 76 Unashig Members. 

The service is branded Healthcare at Your Doorstep. It has three components, as follows:
1)    Med On Wheels: This service will deliver medicine at your doorstep based on the  prescription which you share via a specified WhatsApp number or email address.
2)    Cellphone consultations with a doctor available at a specified mobile phone number.
3)    Counselling Session: This service will be offered via another dedicated mobile phone number.

KENYA ~ UAP Provider Panel List, April 2020

UAP has recently released its latest Provider Panel List for Kenya, with effect from April 2020.  We received it via an email dated May 3rd, 2020. The list can be accessed through the link given below:

Unashig Members already participating in the group health insurance underwritten by UAP are strongly advised that this new panel list is the only one currently valid. All decisions as to which provider to visit for any particular health services must be guided by the details provided in the new list. UAP will not honour any financial commitments between a Member and any provider who is not on the current list. 

UNASHIG: UAP Corporate Health Insurance Application Form for Members

To All Bona-Fide Unashig Members,

Please find below a link to the Corporate Health Insurance Application Form from UAP/OldMutual. If your chosen package of health insurance benefits does not include the Outpatient option, you are  URGENTLY required to download and fill the form for each family member to be covered, and to attach to each form the family member's passport-size photograph. The duly completed form should be uploaded and returned as an email attachment to unasi254ag@gmail.com. 

Submission of the duly completed form will enable you and your dependents to obtain a Photo Card, as an alternative to the Smart Card. You may wish to know that UAP will only issue the Smart Card to Members who include Outpatient Cover in their insurance package.

UAP/OldMutual's Health Insurance Premium Calculations for 78 Unashig Members ~ 31st October 2019

Just three days after we submitted to UAP the family details of 76 Unashig Members, and roughly three hours after adding two Member-details, the Unashig Office reports that we received UAP's much-anticipated health insurance premium calculations at around midday today (though the email indicates that it was sent at around 9:00 AM).

Listed below are the calculations for each of 78 families, identified only by family size and the benefits chosen. Kindly scrutinize the benefits offered and the premiums which each family will have to pay depending on its preferred package of services. This exercise should continue until 7 p.m. this Sunday. This will give Unashig's Management time to prepare a response for submission early next Monday. Up to that deadline, we will also be open to any requests to be added to the list currently holding 78.

As things stand now, the total premium which we will have to pay as a group is KES 11,795,429/-. That's an average of KES 151,223.40 per family. Besides the Inpatient component of the premium, at once inevitable and compulsory, Outpatient cover (made compulsory here if a family wishes to include Dental and/or Optical cover) is obviously the biggest cost-driver in all this.
