He's at ease with his whole self, in fact. But that's before improbable Mdogo Mdogo, in flowing lily white dress, 'discovers' him -- and then (supposedly) he, her. The rendezvous overlooks the palace in which the sometime-Sleeping Beauty lives.
One suspects, though, that he -- predator of sorts to boot (and soon to boo) -- already knew her haunts, and knew she was soon coming. But why play the all-knowing role? Still, he's never seen 'suchlike' (Sachalike). This seemingly simple lore is many-sided.
This land, this settlement, belongs to a white-settler type living the big life -- with all the pretensions of a king's -- deep inside Africa. Or perhaps the kingship is a myth that has 'built itself', from all sides, around his settlement. Yet Troubadour, 'loser' or not, wants a part of it. He's the soft power type. The princess, too, has ambitions -- of finding love in this same Africa that's so distant even from right here.
What the King-Father doesn't realize is that loser's real talent -- his real magic -- is in his voice, and his dance moves. In the end, Father capitulates to Daughter's wishes, who has capitulated (no, 'won' sly Troubadour's heart) as well. It's a double-win for her, alright? And all's well with everyone. Sumptuous music, then.
