Skuki and Olamide in Highly Charged PETERU

Peteru, for me, is one of the most memorable songs on the African continent. One of the most worthy of curating at the highest level. Nothing has eroded this impression since I first came upon the song some seven months ago; though, of course savoring a thing is inconsistent with a daily dose of it. Absence doth make the heart grow fonder, as the sages keep reminding us, and as the saying goes.

What I'm saying about Peteru -- why I rate it so highly -- has nothing to do with its standing in anyone's charts or pageview count, then or now, but all to do with how my inner sensibilities processed it in the earliest instances of encounter.

Peteru is offered in a wonderfully crafted video. I like the dance moves and routines. What a colourful set! The Skuki Duo are, in it, indubitably a musical High Command. Superstar Olamide of course does his usual magical thing, and as usual gives us the assurance, with his sheer presence, that what we have before our eyes and ears is a wholly good thing. He's a powerful brand, all by his undeterred self.

The word 'Peteru' may be repeated as a 'chorus' a tard too often and rather too loudly, but everything else ebbs and flows, dashes in and out of view -- teases and charms the gaze -- with such harmony and such energy and so purposefully!

The female cast is the best thing of all in this video: lovely, supple, totally engaged, tireless. Inspired. Enchanting. Cheerful. Provoking, in that palpable innocence. Super, super confident.

This is no mere pop, it is refined theater. This is cultural art of the highest order. This is a gem of the African Renaissance.

QUESTION: (a) Does it matter that a song is sung in an unfamiliar language; does unfamiliarity distort the appreciation of it? (b) Does reading a song's lyrics enhance or devalue its audio/video rendition?
