Ah! The sounds one fondly remembers populate the far reaches of the, so to speak, accordion universe.
I always loved this wonderful, tuneful, song. It was lovely to be surrounded by it, and to be transported into a future we dreamt of -- and which awaited us. A future as un-deciphered as the songs we most loved. We, who were kings of our own moments.
All we knew was that the song alluded to a mythical Comrade ('Camarade') in Kinshasa, whom we could all relate to. We didn't understand the message in the song, and had no translation of any kind. We didn't care -- didn't think we cared. We had been conditioned by the circumstances of our access to the song, and so didn't worry about the finer details of meaning.
UPDATE: This is an update of a post first published on this blog in November 2016 -- and now 'retired'. The update was mainly prompted by the find of a rather more direct link to the audio of Camarade ya Kinshasa.
